There are still some of the old shortcomings of office e. I have purchased the family pack, taking advantage at least I thought so of the offer to upgrade for free to the next version. When it was time to upgrade, I realized that instead of the three PCs supported by the family pack I actually use only two of them , I had the option to either go online and have five licenses office for one year or download 1 license.

This happens frequently due to connection problems at home, but I also often decide to work offline, just to make sure that I don't get any network-related slow-downs.
I was thinking that getting just one license must have been due to some error in the license databases and decided to download the version on my laptop and try to resolve the issue with the three licenses later.

Finally I decided to use the European number, and then the activation worked This relatively time-consuming experience is the reason for removing one star from my overall evaluation. Main reason for buying was because school have recently made the move and being quite picky about the software I use I decided to upgrade as well.
The user interface is refined a little from the version, the main change being the new file menu. I find this a lot easier to use and more aesthetically pleasing too. Having watched some demo videos on youtube, I am getting good with all the tricks it has up its' sleeves - like the new "remove background" feature for images.
It is just as easy to use as before, if not better. Having read previous reviews and lots of them! The option to install trials of the professional bundle was automatically de-selected when I put the DVD in. Hopefully this will help if you are unsure about buying this as well. RE: the offer for the free upgrade to when it is released - I'll probably get it to see if it's any good, evaluate it for a bit, then decide whether I want to go back or stay where I am.
It's designed to blend with the Windows 8 theme which is the only reason I am unsure - I am stuck on windows 7! We needed instead of upgrading to because I have a number of audio visual shows that were created in Powerpoint which came with the laptop that has needed replacing. The new laptop comes with Office and Home trial versions on - the problem is that AV shows created in do not play correctly in any other years version! They would all need their timings adjusting - not a small job - and not one that I had time to tackle: a failed laptop, a new one to get used to and bookings looming up was all pretty stressfull, so it was a relief to upload and everything about it was familiar and most importantly the timings in the show were spot on!
I feel that sometimes upgrading each year just to gain a few new tweaks or a new looking layout is not always necessary or welcome!! Well I have to use the latter at work but do my best to use it as little as possible. Office in my opinion is just easier to use, more intuitive - at least for me - and it's possible to produce a very nice finished product.
One of the great features is the autorecovery, which means there is a much better chance of recovering your work in the event of a sudden power cut or your computer automatically restarting behind your back and if you don't save a version when you close a file, there is still a chance to get that back next time you open Word or Excel. Unless you really want to try out the trial versions of Outlook and Access, I would suggest you opt for not installing these with the rest of the package during the install process, as I found the only way to stop Outlook being my default but unusuable email was by uninstalling the whole lot and reinstalling.
I am very happy with this software package and feel the hundred or so pounds was money well spent, even though I have open source equivalents on my computer to satisfy the bosses at work.
